Zak Moaveni graduated in Medicine from Otago University in 1996. During his subsequent training as a specialist Plastic Surgeon, he has received a number of academic honours including the prestigious Gordon-Taylor Gold Medal for the top surgical examination ranking in Australia and New Zealand. He was later awarded the inaugural Stryker Fellowship to complete further sub-specialist training in Craniofacial and Head & Neck surgery.
More recently he has returned from a year of traveling overseas in Asia, North America and Europe working directly with some of the best minds and leading surgeons in the world in the fields of paediatric and aesthetic plastic surgery. Highlights included the highly esteemed paediatric cleft and craniomaxillofacial fellowship in Taiwan, the Synthes traveling scholarship toLos Angeles and Dallas, and the Mentor Aesthetic fellowship in the leading facial aesthetic practice in London. This wonderful and humbling experience has permitted a unique and new insight into the field of cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgery.

Zak has a permanent appointment at Waikato Hospital as a consultant plastic surgeon and is a visiting specialist to Rotorua Hospital. He also holds operating privileges at all of Hamilton's leading private surgical facilities.
When not involved with work, Zak is an avid runner and cherishes time spent with his young family.
