Dr Salmon graduated from Auckland Medical School , New Zealand in 1987.

He completed four years of specialised dermatology training as a registered Specialist Dermatologist licensed in New Zealand and Australia . A further two years of study in skin cancer, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery was undertaken at the University of California , San Francisco .

He was the invited delegate to address the multidisciplinary meeting for the Medical Council of New Zealand last year on Safety in Cosmetic Surgery.

Specialist Cosmetic Dermatologist

Dr Salmon has previously appeared on television documentaries demonstrating hair transplantation, laser resurfacing and tumescent liposuction. He pioneered tumescent liposuction under local anesthetic in New Zealand and is recognized by his dermatologic peers as the pre-eminent cosmetic dermatologist. He is a spokesperson for the New Zealand Dermatological Society on cosmetic surgery issues.

Dr Salmon has lectured at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting over the last 10 years on numerous cosmetics subjects including liposuction, laser resurfacing, and blepharoplasty, something no other New Zealand dermatologist has done.

Medical Background

Dr Salmon is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a registered Specialist Dermatologist, a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology and the training site for this college here in New Zealand . He is a member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, on the Specialist Advisory Committee for advanced training in Dermatology at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as well as member of the New Zealand Society of Dermatologists Executive Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee and Specialist Advisory Committee.

Whilst training in the United States , Paul received the National Ted Tromovich Memorial Award for his research in skin cancer.

Dr Salmon is an internationally recognised Dermatologic Surgeon having been a guest speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. He has been an invited guest speaker at meetings in San Francisco , Washington D.C. , Orlando , New York University and New Orleans . He gave the Henry Menn Memorial oration at the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgery meeting in Florida 2002 and Grand Rounds at New York University Medical Centre 2003. He was appointed co-chairperson of skin cancer symposium at the World Congress of Dermatologists in 2002 and is the author of numerous scientific papers on skin cancer and dermatology.

Dr Salmon currently provides a comprehensive skin cancer surgery service including Mohs Surgical Services to the Department of Ophthalmology at Waikato Public Hospital and from the Skin Centre premises at Cameron Road, Tauranga.

In May 2004 Dr Salmon was registered as a training site for a post graduate fellowship under the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. Since 2002 he has been Program Director in Dermatologic Surgery to advanced trainees in Dermatology on rotation to Waikato Hospital.
